Taranakay
The collaborative family tree for Malagasy families.
Taranakay brings the whole family together around a living tree: each branch fills in its own story, elders pass knowledge on, younger members discover where they come from. Built around the Malagasy concept of taranaka (descent).

The problem
Family history is passed on orally and gets lost: who was the brother of which great-grandparent, how are we related to that distant cousin, where does that ancestor rest? Existing genealogy software is designed for Western families, in English, for a single user.
Features
- Interactive tree with minimap, zoom and search
- Directory, family focus and timeline views
- Relationship calculator between any two people
- Member profiles: photos, dates, places, biography
- GEDCOM import and export (international standard)
- Change requests approved by branch managers
What makes it different
- Designed for Malagasy families: large sibling groups, multiple unions, many generations
- Collaborative: each branch manages its own part, with roles (super admin, branch manager, member, guest)
- Contact details of living people hidden from visitors
- Works on desktop, tablet and phone
What you gain
- Preserve family memory for future generations
- Find and reconnect scattered branches (city, regions, diaspora)
- Prepare famadihana, weddings and family gatherings
- Private data, securely hosted
Who is it for? Families, family associations, the Malagasy diaspora.
